NPC members will be among thousands gathering in Westminster next Wednesday to call on MPs to take bold action on climate change and our precious environment.
More than 4,500 people have already signed up to travel to London for the ‘Act Now Change Forever’ Mass Lobby of Parliament organised by The Climate Coalition (TCC).
And there is still time to register for this historic event enabling ordinary people from across the UK to discuss their climate concerns, one-to-one with their own constituency MPs.
Act Now Change Forever - Mass Lobby of Parliament
Be part of history on 9th July!
The closing date to sign up is midday Tuesday, 8th July. Once you register online here - www.theclimatecoalition.org/act-now-change-forever?organization_name=national-pensioners-convention - you will be sent a Lobby Pack with full details on how to participate in the day.
Remember, if the cost of travelling to London is a stumbling block, as it is for many, the good news is TCC can help pay for your transport costs! Find out more here: Travel and Inclusion Policy
It doesn’t matter whether or not you want to talk to your MP or just attend to show support and enjoy the talks, nature walks and music in the Lobby Hub. But for those who do want to meet their MPs, the TCC Lobby Pack will guide you through the process, from asking to meet your MP at one of the three venues around the Houses of Parliament, to how to frame the issues you want to discuss. There is even advice on accessibility, and health and safety, with plenty of TCC representatives around on the day to help out.
NPC will have a stand in the QEII Hall – the event Lobby Hub - which will be open from 9.30am to 4.30pm – so come and say ‘hello’ to us.
Jan Shortt, General Secretary, National Pensioners' Convention, who will also be there said: "NPC members care passionately about the world that our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will inherit. We want a greener, healthier, and safer future for our families, and totally support the aims of The Climate Coalition Mass Lobby. That's why we will be in Westminster on 9th July - to show that the Act Now Change Forever action is a truly intergenerational campaign."
Research by The Climate Coalition of organisations and charities concerned about the environment has found that climate change is no longer a niche issue – it is a major concern for people of all ages and backgrounds. The ’Act Now Change Forever’ lobby gives us all a chance to meet our MPs to press for more government action on conserving our precious environment.
TCC is asking MPs to back bold, practical action by committing to:
Vital funding for communities hit hardest by climate change;
Cutting bills, backing UK jobs, to secure a greener fairer future for all;
Restoring nature to create a safer, healthier future.
