National Pensioners Convention members were ‘proud’ to be part of a Mass Lobby calling for urgent action to protect our precious planet.
We joined more than 5,000 people from right across the UK who signed up to meet their MPs for The Climate Coalition’s historic ‘Act Now Change Forever’ event in Westminster (Wednesday, 9th July).
As the UK’s biggest campaign group run for and by older people, the NPC wants the government to be bolder and do much more to conserve the environment that our grandchildren and great grandchildren will inherit.
Jan Shortt, General Secretary, National Pensioners' Convention, said: "The fight for the future of our planet is a truly intergenerational cause, and we were proud to stand side by side with people of all ages at this hugely successful Mass Lobby of Parliament.
NPC members care passionately about the world that our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will inherit. We want a greener, healthier, and safer future for everyone, and totally support the aims of the ‘Act Now Change Forever’ campaign. That’s why we signed up with thousands of others to meet our constituency MPs and make the case for bolder action and environmental policies. We hope the MPs listened and got the message that this is a fight that we are all in together.”
The NPC and our Climate Change Working Party aim to continue working alongside The Climate Coalition on the campaign in future.
Research by The Climate Coalition of organisations and charities concerned about the environment has found that climate change is no longer a niche issue – it is a major concern for people of all ages and backgrounds. The ’Act Now Change Forever’ lobby gave ordinary people the chance to press their own MPs for more government action to conserve the environment.
TCC is asking them to back ‘bold, practical action’ by committing to:
· Vital funding for communities hit hardest by climate change;
· Cutting bills, backing UK jobs, to secure a greener fairer future for all;
· Restoring nature to create a safer, healthier future.
