International Day of Older Persons 2023

Each year on 1st October, people across the world mark UN International Day of Older Persons to raise awareness of opportunities and challenges faced by ageing populations, and to mobilise the wider community to address difficulties faced by older people.


Jan Shortt, NPC General Secretary, said "Older Persons Day is about our fundamental right to a quality of life that enables us to do the things we want to do. Without bus services, many of us could not visit friends and families, get to shopping areas of health centres. October is also about celebrating the contributions made to this country from the Windrush generation and those who followed them. Our differences in experiencing life, work and retirement makes us a better nation and we should celebrate that and our part in it.
